Sharing a socio-constructive perspective, my PhD project is focused on everyday practice in primary school, teacher-pupils interactions and interactive discursive sequences. In particular, my investigation is inspired by the epistemological assumptions of the cultural-historical school and by Bachtin’s theories on dialogism. To give further details, I can add that my project is intended to deepen some theoretical and methodological topics, such as: different ways in which pupils can participate to classroom discourse; dialogical vs. monological processes of co-construction of knowledge; strategies used by teachers to encourage scaffolding dynamics; public and polyphonic nature of classroom discourse.
What do I expect from ISCAR SU? I am attracted by the possibility to participate to thick theoretical and epistemological debates, as well as to share with other participants some methodological reflections. Opening a dialogue between researchers and PhD students, together with discussing and debating our projects, are certainly fruitful occasions to improve our work and enlarge the horizons of our research. For these reasons, I would be honoured to attend the ISCAR Summer University.
Finally, I would be glad to share this experience with my Italian colleague, Francesca Balestra, who is also applying to ISCAR SU. Both of us are doing our PhD in the same University, and collaborate to the Departmental Centre CAVI (Video-Analysis Centre of Interactions, http://www.cavi.unipr.it/), that is devoted to the development of a set of methods for the analysis of video recorded data. The corpus of data of my project is actually composed of several video-recordings collected in Italian primary schools, and I believe that these data offer a rich potential for the investigation of the discursive dynamics and the co-construction of knowledge in educational settings.
