My name is Stylianou Liana, I am a primary school teacher and Headmistress of an Environmental Education Centre and a PhD student in the University of Ioannina in Greece. I am applying to participate to ISCAR Summer University for the first time.
The title of my PhD Thesis is “Environmental Education as a professional development tool for Science teachers in Secondary Education. Teachers’ perceptions, intentions and practices” and it is connected with CHAT as a way to deal with the problem of Science teachers professional development adopting teaching strategies of the Environmental Education. Moreover it is part of the @FISE project of the University of Ioannina, which deals with Activity Theory in formal and informal Science Education.
I consider my participation in the Summer University that you organize of high priority as it will offer me the opportunity to cooperate with other PhD students involved in the socio cultural theories, as well as with professors who are experts in the field of socio cultural theories. Furthermore, it would be a great challenge for me to present the way we make socio cultural approaches in the University of Ioannina, both in laboratory lessons in the Department of Preschool Education and in the non formal Education of the Environmental Education Centers.
It will be a great opportunity for me because my country is in deep crisis and we don’t have opportunities to take part in this importance summer schools
In addition, it is very important for the outcome of my PhD Thesis to participate in this Summer University, as it aims to discuss the connection between theory and various methodologies. The fruitful exchange of ideas with other PhD students and professors will offer great support to my thesis as it will be a product of social interaction.
Therefore, I definitely believe that through the 6th ISCAR Summer University for PhD students For the L.S.Vygotsky`s 120th Anniversary “Cultural-historical psychology: interdisciplinary research perspectives” I will be able to improve both methodological and practical approaches for my PhD Thesis. I would be grateful for your consideration of my candidacy for the 6th ISCAR Summer University.
