I am writing to express my great interest in applying for the 3rd ISCAR Summer University at Moscow State University of Psychology and Education “Moving with and beyond Vygotsky”, which will take place in Moscow on Monday 2nd – Saturday 8th of July 2012.

My name is Charikleia Theodoraki I am 25 years old and I am PhD student at the University of Ioannina in Greece. I participated to ISCAR CONGRESS 2011 which took place in Rome with a presentation entitled “A CHAT APPROACH  IN NATURAL SCIENCES EDUCATION LABORATORY LESSONS TOWARDS REFORMING TEACHERS TRAINING”.

My PhD Thesis entitled “Designing and analyzing activities of Science Education for pupils aged 5-9 years with the current positions of the Activity Theory (cultural-historical-activity theory – CHAT”, is  developing in the context of a  research Project  which is co-funded by the European Union – European Social Fund (ESF) & National Sources, in the framework of the program “HRAKLEITOS II” of the “Operational Program Education and Life Long Learning” of the Hellenic Ministry of Education, Life Long Learning  and religious affairs .

I am also member of the @FISE group of Ioannina, which deals with Activity Theory in formal and informal Science Education.

My participation in Summer University that you organize is very important, as I will come in contact both with other PhD students involved with the socio cultural theories, and with professors who are experts in these theories. In addition it is a great challenge for me to present how we work in the University of Ioannina based on socio cultural approaches, both in workshops at the Department of Preschool Education and kindergartens in the city of Ioannina.

In addition, it is very important for the outcome of my PhD Thesis to participate in this Summer University, as it aims to discuss the connection between theory and various methodologies as well as to reflect on emerging practical problems that concern education, psychotherapy, social policy, social work, urban planning, new information and communication technologies etc. Pure scientific knowledge in Physics is certainly not enough for everybody who interacts with children.

Therefore, I definitely believe that 3rd ISCAR Summer University at Moscow State University of Psychology and Education “Moving with and beyond Vygotsky” is one of the few that offers me the opportunity to improve both methodological and practical approaches for my PhD Thesis.
