As our involvement in the “socio-cultural, historical” theory deepens, our research interest is focused on the following problems:
• Do we perceive, in all its dimension, the conceptual principles, views and prospects of the “socio-cultural, historical” theory?
• Through which research choices and methodological practices can we acquire access to richer and more practical/realistic, experience data?
• How can we support, though this approach, the organization of more “authentic” learning incidents in order to support the children “intension” to learn, aiming to a more dynamic and substantive education?
The above questions constitute the three basic axis of our broad research effort. More specifically, the last few years, our research interest is focused on the notion of interaction between children, between adults, between children and adults and its significance in order to structure common meaning.
Furthermore, seeking alternative ways in order to be able to address the above challenges, we have, recently, structured and we, now, manage a small early childhood education teacher network. Our goal is to place the foundation of our research activity on “purely” socio-cultural, historical base acting not as individual researchers but as part of a wider group that interacts, moving gradually our research interest from the personal to the interpersonal level.
The recognition of the need, on a research level, for interaction, communication and functioning within a network, constitutes a major motive concerning my application for participation on the 5th ISCAR Summer University. I consider that chance of a new “socio-cultural, historical approach” researcher to be part of a team of people with similar interests, very important, since in such way such researcher can search and clarify related knowledge, can communicate, pose problems, exchange research thoughts and seek new prospects in this research field. Taking into account the growing international interest on the “socio-cultural, historical approach” that we adopt and the growing research bibliography, ISCAR Summer University constitutes a very important and unique opportunity for dialoging, processing, evaluation and cultivation of a spherical understanding on this research area.
Furthermore, since the research dynamic of the “socio-cultural, historical approach” in the Greek academic/research community is not widely known and respected, ISCAR Summer University could be an excellent opportunity for communication and pursuit on specific thematic areas and practices that can be migrated and adopted in Greece.
