Bento Selau da Silva Junior
My name is Bento Selau da Silva Junior, male, I’m 34 years old and I am a student of the Doctorate Course in Education at Universidade Federal de Pelotas, in Brazil. I live in Jaguarão, at the country side of Rio Grande do Sul, and I am a professor at Universidade Federal do Pampa. My doctoral research aims to understand how a group of blind people explain the conclusion of Higher Education, identifying factors associated to this conclusion, in light of historical-cultural psychology. I am involved with studies supported by the theory developed by L. S. Vygotsky since graduation (1999), when I did the research “The ludic behavior of children in swimming lessons”. This investigation had been anchored in the assumptions of Vygotsky and talked about the binomial development-learning and the children’s play at the liquid environment. It was published in the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul’s journal “Movimento”. In 2003 I started studying my master’s degree in Education, at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. The dissertation entitled “Importance and meaning about the role of the groups in inclusive academic education” tried to understand the interactions in the group’s structure that is established between regular and disabled students in a proposal of inclusive education at Basic Education, having as theoretical basis the texts developed by Vygotsky within the ambit of defectology. After the realization of this research, I was captivated with the theoretical conception that Vygotsky exposed to the work with disabled people, especially the blind. I believe that his indications offer consistent theoretical arguments about the development of a blind person in the cultural context and they are capable of helping teachers taking pedagogical decisions turned to the process of internalization of the contents by blind students and their consequent cognitive repercussion.
I have a great interest in participating in this course of ISCAR Summer School, mainly by the involvement with the studies of Vygotsky. Attending lectures with scholars of the area that I am involved will be able to provide different views to the development of my doctoral study. I still believe that this summer school will be able to represent a very good opportunity for the deepening about the historical-cultural psychology, at the moment that I am especially thinking about the works developed by Vygotsky.
My principal desire is related to a theoretical consolidation about the work developed by Vygotsky. It is relevant, evidently, the production of authors like Luria, Bakhtin, Rubinstein, Gal’perin, El’konin, Davydov e Zinchenko. However, in this moment of my scientific career I long to consolidate the writing of my thesis, mainly based on the studies of Vygotsky.
